About the Port Authority
The Breckenridge Port Authority, serving as the economic development agency for the City, is charged with actively pursuing a conscientious and coordinated effort to encourage and precipitate future development within Breckenridge so as to increase the tax base, promote employment and enhance the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City. Governed by a 7-member Board, the Port Authority is a progressive organization that is committed to these goals and is constantly working towards making Breckenridge a better place to live, work, visit and conduct business.
Economic Development
General development activities include those directed toward the retention and expansion of existing businesses, the attraction of new businesses and the development of new enterprises. These activities involve the provision of a comprehensive package of development services including:
- Assistance in the identification and analysis of appropriate business and development facilities and sites.
- Provision of business and technical assistance to include the preparation of business plans, marketing plans and analysis and financial planning.
- Assistance in identifying and accessing alternative sources of capital and a wide array of incentive financing including SBA, regional funds and the local Breckenridge Revolving Loan Fund.
- Provision of pertinent financial and demographic information, reference materials and referral services to appropriate agencies and programs.
- Ownership of the Breckenridge Industrial Mall - a complex of buildings and land that is available for development.
- Operation of the Breckenridge Business Center, a small business incubator intended to assist in the formation and growth of small industrial or heavy-service related ventures.
Recently the Port Authority has become active in the area of housing development which has included the development and ownership of
Prairieview Subdivision, Northland Subdivision, Heritage Estates and Gewalt Addition. These projects provide much needed single family housing lots
and multi-family housing.
